Planning a WooCommerce integration: what to define first
An overview of the practical questions worth resolving before development starts.
Map the exact data flow
List what information leaves WooCommerce, where it goes and which system is authoritative. Shipping labels, invoices and payment status are different workflows and should be described separately.
Identify who triggers each event
Does the integration run after payment, on an administrator action, on a scheduled task or following a courier response? Agree on what happens when a customer edits an order.
Handle failures and duplicate requests
External APIs may time out, reject invalid addresses or deliver delayed confirmations. Plan logging, retries and duplicate prevention before going live.
Check staging, secrets and responsibilities
Use the least access necessary. Keep API keys outside public pages, test with non-sensitive sample orders and define ownership of support after deployment.
